Ada County appoints new Chief Public Defender

A new Chief Public Defender will begin working for Ada County on September 16.

The Ada County Board of Commissioners appointed Anthony Geddes for the position.

He will take over for Alan Trimming who is retiring after 36 years of service.

In a press release, Ada County says Geddes is "a highly accomplished trial attorney with over 20 years of experience." Geddes, they say, has been a member of the Idaho State Bar for the last two decades and has been at least Co-Counsel in seven murder trials.

"Anthony Geddes is highly qualified for this position," said Chairman Jim Tibbs. "He is well respected by everyone he works with from defendants to judges. His ability to stay calm and show compassion while working in such an intense environment demonstrates to us that he is the team leader we want in Ada County."

The process to find someone to replace Trimming was a long one. A committee of attorneys were in charge of recruiting a group of well-qualified candidates from around the nation.

A public defender's job is to represent those who can not afford an attorney on their own.
