Boise gymnast Kayla Beal aims for 2020 Olympics
"The 2020 Olympics are my goal," said Beal, a gymnast at Wings Center in Boise. "If I was at the stage where I could go to the Olympics in 2016 I would but I am just not old enough."
The two-time level nine state champion from Meridian now plans on moving to a bigger stage. The only two plateaus above her are level 10 and then elite.
"I always thought it was just a dream but now my dreams are slowly becoming reality."
To achieve those dreams, Kayla and her family are moving to Frisco, Tex. at the end of the month.
"We've been working on it for over a year," said Kim Beal, Kayla's mother.
Beal will train at the World Olympic Gymnastics Academy. The center has produced Olympians like gold-medalist Nastia Liukin.
"She will get dropped off at the gym and be there for practice at 8 a.m. and we will pick her up at 7 p.m.," Kim said. "Her training will be 36 hours a week."
Beal will take online school courses at the academy as well.
"I am more anxious than anything but I am excited to get there," Kayla said.
Beal may not be in Idaho for much longer, but you may see her on your television set once again in a couple of years.
