Boise Rescue Mission adds 58 beds for homeless women and children
BOISE, Idaho (CBS2) — On Saturday, Aug. 17, Boise Rescue Mission Ministries staff reopened a remote dormitory to the Next Step Transitional Living facility at City Light Home for Women and Children at 1417 W. Jefferson St. in Boise. Due to the large influx of individuals and families coming to the shelter, this space will provide 58 additional beds for homeless women and children.
Boise Rescue Mission initially added the dormitory in 2009 when the number of homeless women and children significantly rose in the community. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the number of women and children seeking services decreased, and the dorm has since been utilized as a classroom meeting area for the Mission's Children's Program.
"The number of guests seeking shelter have risen across the board, with women and children currently having the largest increase. The timing of this change is great as our Summer Kids Program concluded last week," said the Mission’s President/CEO, Rev. Bill Roscoe. "The Mission is currently providing emergency shelter and services to more than 165 women and children each night and we want to provide beds for our guests in the best way possible."
