Chairlift falls at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort
North Powder, OR (CBS2) — An incident involving two employees at Anthony Lakes Mountain Resort in North Powder, Oregon caused a chair to detach from the haul rope (cable).
The incident was caused when one employee gave a "super bump" to a chair that another employee was riding on. The "super bump" caused the chair to swing and twist side to side and hit the first tower resulting in the chair twisting and detaching from the haul rope. The employee that was the only rider on the chair was uninjured.
ALMR says that the Rock Garden Chair is a 1999 Riblet, the chairs of that model of chairlift are attached purely by the tension of the cable. They also said that their chairs are given twist checks every day to ensure the safety of skiers. The Rock Garden chair passed its annual lift inspection in the fall and is in great working condition.
After closing the chair lift at 3 pm Saturday ALMR crews began another full inspection to ensure public safety. There is no word on when it will be reopened.
