Flooding turns skate park into impromptu community pool
OREM, Utah (KUTV) — Flood waters filled the Orem Skate Park after a quick-moving storm moved through Utah County, making it look more like a community pool.
The Orem Police Department posted photos on their social media pages Tuesday evening, showing the skate park nearly overflowing with flood waters.
A strong storm moving across the Wasatch Front produced inch-sized hail and nearly three-quarters of an inch of rain in just a 20-minute period.
KUTV meteorologist Chase Thomason said large amounts of hail can quickly block storm drains, leaving rainwater to pool and flood.
Several people traded in their skateboards and bikes for swimming suits, and enjoyed the impromptu pool.
Details about exactly what caused the park to flood.
