Vint Cerf is an American internet pioneer. He is recognized as one of “the fathers of the Internet,” along with Bob Kahn.
Vint is the son of Muriel D. (Gray) and Vinton Thurston/Thruston Cerf, an aerospace executive. His father was of German Jewish and French Jewish descent. His mother was Canadian, from Montréal, Québec, and was of Irish and French-Canadian ancestry. He was raised partly in Van Nuys, California. He is married to Sigrid Thorstenberg, with whom he has two children.
Vint’s paternal grandfather was Maximillian Cerf, Jr. (the son of Maximillian/Maximilian Cerf and Caroline Reinbrecht). Vint’s grandfather Maximillian was born in Kentucky, to German Jewish parents. Vint’s great-grandfather Maximilian was born in Baden, the son of Nathan Cerf and Fanny Rothschild.
Vint’s paternal grandmother was Aline Helen Cerf (the daughter of Henry Cerf and Anna Joseph). Aline was born in Indiana. Henry was born in Tennessee, the son of French Jewish parents, Nathan Cerf and Fanny. Anna was a German Jewish immigrant.
