WATCH: I had lady friends Marcus Spears and Ryan Clark lose their minds on finding out
The sun is rising in the east, and Stephen A. Smith‘s ranting against the Dallas Cowboys will forever be constant. Over the years, the superstar sportscaster has never shied away from showing his displeasure toward America’s team, and on Monday night, he took it to a new level.
Smith was joined by the bandwagon consisting of Scott Van Pelt, Marcus Spears, and Ryan Clark on the MNF Countdown desk at Chargers Stadium. Spears put forth arguably the most inquired topic in sports history. Why does Stephen A. hate the Dallas Cowboys?
In reply, Smith hinted that a past with a lady friend might have a hand. “I had a lady,” Stephen A. started, but before he could dive into the story any deeper, Clark interrupted him to say, “They must’ve gone to the White House.” This seemingly witty comment took Van Pelt and Clark by surprise, who could not stop giggling for a while.
Then Van Pelt interjected, “That’s not in Washington, D.C.” Clark followed it up with his retort, “And that’s not where the President lives.”
A funny conversation indeed. But for those who aren’t able to decipher the foreign colloquialism, here’s what they are implying. Well, first off, they are not talking about The White House.
According to Jeff Pearlman of The Guardian, former Dallas Cowboys star wide receiver (now FOX analyst) Michael Irvin and a few other Dallas players rented a five-bedroom house that was close to the team’s practice facility. The aforementioned ‘White House’ was more of a palace house than a government office.
“The house was rented in an exclusively white, low-key community,” Pearlman wrote. “6-foot-5-inch, 300-pound African American men are escorting an endless conveyor belt of large-breasted blondes.”
Does Stephen A. Smith hate the Dallas Cowboys?
Well, yes, and no. Smith doesn’t hate the Dallas Cowboys franchise as per se and even claimed to be good friends with owner Jerry Jones. It’s the people around him that piss him off. More precisely, the fanbase.
Smith, while appearing in Arizona on Super Bowl LVII Radio Row, claimed that he couldn’t stand the “disgusting” and “nauseating” fans. “It has nothing to do with the Cowboys,” he told Ringers Kevin Clark in February. “[But] it’s their disgusting, nauseating fan base, which I can’t stand.”
He even stopped for a second during the conversation to give a shout-out to Cowboys corner Trevon Diggs and linebacker Micah Parsons. According to him, these two are one-of-a-kind players.
To bulletproof his argument, Stephen A. Smith gave the example of the New York fan circle. The Big Apple native revealed that they don’t boast around every season that “this is gonna be our year”. No! Because they know beforehand that the team is trash. But the Cowboys fans are like, “Their season could end on Jan. 5 at 7 p.m. after a 1–15 record. 15 minutes later, ‘You know we’re going to win the Super Bowl next year, right?'”
Judging by his recent takes on quarterback Dak Prescott and even betting on him to throw interceptions against the San Francisco 49ers, it’s unlikely he will stop any time soon. Not to mention, there is still a lot of football left to be played.
